Harry Boycott, Age 18

Private, 17392, 5^th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.

Harry was the son Elizabeth Ann and lived with her and his stepfather William Adamson at 39 Coalmore, nr Horsehay.

He had enlisted in the KSLI in February 1915 a week after his 18^th birthday, and prior to his enlistment had worked for Mr George Passey of Horsehay for 4 years.

After training at Pembroke Dock was posted to their 5^th Battalion, which was attached to 42 Brigade, 14^th (Light) Division. On 20^th May 1915 the Division landed at Boulogne, and saw its first major action at the Battle of Loos. Harry died before this however. He was wounded in the head on 2^nd August, after only being in France for four weeks having arrived there on July 7^th according to his medal card (Shown above). His battalion at the time was holding trenches in the vicinity of Hooge and Railway Wood in the Ypres salient. Harry succumbed to his wounds three days later, on 5^th August 1915, aged 18.

Harry is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery, France, in Grave II. B. 36A.
